Chess of the Gods

8x8x8 chess, rebuilt from a 20-year-old Java project into a modern Android game.

A legacy game-logic project became a published Android release with more dimensions, more decisions, and less mercy.

The story

Chess of the Gods began as a Java Swing game-logic codebase created roughly 20 years ago. Nerdtopia preserved its distinctive rules, adapted the experience for Android, rebuilt the interface for mobile play, and carried the product through packaging, publication, and ongoing maintenance.

Why it matters

The product demonstrates legacy-code understanding, preservation of valuable behavior, mobile redesign, validation, and direct ownership of the release process.

Build notes

  • Legacy Java origin with modern Android/Kotlin adaptation.
  • Packaging, Google Play publication, release maintenance, and ongoing product ownership.
  • Existing game behavior preserved while the interface was redesigned for mobile play.
  • AI-assisted development used to accelerate delivery while testing, validation, and release judgment remained with Nerdtopia.
